Moving Day Checklist

Moving day is stressful enough, so don’t wait until the last minute to begin planning. At this point, most of your moving preparations should be completed. But moving day still requires proper organization to keep everything according to plan.

1. Pack Up Small Items

Although you can pack most of your items in advance, you’ll have a few leftover belongings to deal with on the moving day morning. Keep an overnight bag or small suitcase within reach so that you can easily pack up last-minute items. Some of these items include:

  • Shower Supplies
  • Bathroom Items
  • Makeup
  • Pajamas
  • Cleaning Supplies
  • Medication
  • Chargers

2. Meet with Your Movers

When your full-service movers arrive at your home, you should guide them through the areas they’ll need to help with. This way, they know exactly what to load onto their truck. You should also show them which pieces require disassembly and which items require special care or handling. During this time, you can also begin packing your car with boxes you want to keep on hand. Plan to keep small snacks, paperwork, and other essentials with you during your move.

3. Conduct a Final Walkthrough

Before you leave your home, conduct a final walkthrough of your space. Carry a trash bag with you to clean up anything leftover, such as perishable food. Make sure to turn off all lights, lock all doors, and prepare to hand over your keys.

4. Travel to Your New Home

Once you arrive at your home, take a moment to open your doors and turn on lights so that it’s easier to navigate when moving in. When your movers arrive, walk them through the space so that they know where to unload your belongings. You’ll also want to discuss which items need to be reassembled.

5. Unpack Essential Items

As your residential movers unload their truck, you can begin unpacking essential items. Unpacking bathroom supplies, kitchenware, and some clothing will make settling in much easier. You can also begin setting up curtains and bedding to make your home more comfortable. While it can feel overwhelming to have everything in boxes, don’t feel like you need to unpack everything right away. Take time to get settled in and enjoy your new home!
